Each year, more and more skiers and snowboarders are realizing that they don’t have to spend the Northern Hemisphere’s summer dreaming of fresh tracks, they have them right here in the Andes. Together with Argentina, Chile is the Southern Hemisphere’s top destination for skiers and snowboarders, with wonderfully diverse, dependable snow conditions, resorts ranging from the plush and ultra modern to down-home rustic, and enough untracked backcountry to bring tears to your eyes.

CENTRAL CHILE
The ski areas are way up high and the mountains are big, rugged, and treeless. You need a lot of snow to cover up the jumbled rocks of these crumbling giants. The wide-open skiing and scale of terrain is more akin to resorts in the Alps than anywhere in the States. The snow is relatively light, good enough for guaranteed face shots

VALLE NEVADO Chile's premier, ski resort. Its location, only 60 kilometers from Santiago, which means that international travelers from all parts of the Globe have easy access to some of the finest skiing slopes in the World. SOUTHERN CHILE
In the South, the ski areas are all on volcanoes, which are the largest peaks in the region. Again, tree skiing is exceedingly rare, and the big gullies formed by lava and ash flows create natural half pipes ideal for snowboarding. The snow is heavier, starts earlier and lasts longer.
